Common places where corns form are: The top surface of the toe, at the tip of the toe, and between the toes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Causes<br \/>\n<\/strong>\u2022\u00a0Tight-fitting shoes<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0Deformed and crooked toes<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0Tight socks and stockings<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0Seam or stitch inside the shoe which rubs against the toe<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0Sometimes shoes which are too loose, can cause the foot to slide forward with each step causing callous<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0Prolonged walking on a downward slope<br \/>\n<strong>What you can do<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0Avoid shoes which are to tight or too loose<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0Buy shoes with an extra depth toe box (the part of the shoe over the toes)<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0Do not apply socks or stockings tightly around the toes<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0Use a pumice stone or other abrasive to reduce the thickness of the corn<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0Apply non-medicated pads around the corn to relieve pressure<br \/>\n<strong>What we may do<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0Carefully debride (pare down) the corn and any deep seated core it may have. It should be stressed that this provides only temporary relief, if the pressure continues after treatment.<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0Apply various pads and devices to the toes to relieve pressure.<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0Recommend appropriate shoes.<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0Surgically straighten crooked or deformed toes, or remove bony prominences.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Corns &amp; Callous This a thickening of the surface layer of the skin in response to repetitive trauma or pressure.
